I will admit that I am an avid reader, and I read with or without a challenge. However, I do need to broaden my reading horizons. I mostly read fiction. I hesitate to call everything I read fluff, but most of the books I enjoy are easy reads. I look forward to reading as a way to unwind and relax, so I usually choose books that will enable this. For the Spring Reading Thing, I am hoping to tackle a few nonfiction titles as well some fiction selections that I would not choose otherwise. I will also include some that are easier reads just because I want to!
Nonfiction:
I am beginning the challenge with four nonfiction books on my list. I have been planning to read the first two for quite some time; the third is one I saw recently on a blog. My father, an American military buff, recommended 1776. I probably would not choose to read this, but because I am attempting to broaden my horizons, I am going to give it a try!
Fiction:
Seemingly, I am one of the few who has not read Jan Karon. Because I have seen her Mitford series mentioned by so many bloggers, I am including her in my list. I am already reading the Love Comes Softly and Mark of the Lion series, so my list includes books from those as well. I also plan to read the lists of other participants, and I may add to this when I see other books I want to read.
Books I Plan to Reread:
I don't often reread books, but I plan to reread two during the challenge. I read both of these books several years ago. I remember enjoying The Posionwood Bible immensely, but I can't remember much about it. Additionally, The Double Bind, one of my fiction selections, includes references to The Great Gatsby. I plan to reread Gatsby before reading The Double Bind.

Bible Study:
Read-Aloud with My Favorite Boy (age 5):
Read-Aloud with My Best Girl (age 2):
With my daughter, I plan to read various picture books and poems for at least 15 minutes a day.
Books Added after Beginning the Challenge:
Labels: Books, Children's Books

I'm not joining up this time, but I'm going to keep an eye on everyone's lists and start one of my own.
You've got some good books on there.
What a great list, Lauren! And good for you for broadening your horizons! Nineteen Minutes looks really good, and The Innocent Man is sitting on one of my shelves, but I haven't read it yet. :) Thanks for joining in the challenge!
Looks like some great stuff! Forever is on my list as well, along with the other books in the series (read #1 last night). I'ma Francine Rivers and Jan Karon fan as well.
Wow, what a great list! I have 1776 on my zooba.com wishlist. I hope you review it - I'd love to hear your take on it. Bringing Up Boys is a good read, and you can't go wrong with a feel-good Jan Karon book! Ordinary Days looks intriguing. Think I'll add it to my Amazon wishlist.

Great list and I love that you included books that you are reading with your children. I also have Bringing Up Boys on my list. I've started it, but haven't gotten far yet. So far, it's very interesting. Happy Spring and Happy Reading!
That is a great list - I have a friend who highly recommends the Mitford series, I'll have to give them a try.
**sigh** You won't want to leave Mitford, and you'll just fall in love with Becky!
Enjoyed checking out your reading list! I did not want to read the Mitford series, I thought it was going to be too cutesy, but at the urging of my mom I read it and absolutely LOVED it!
Mark of the Lion series is one of my all time favorites. Enjoy!
Like the other Stacy (Vader's Mom), I don't think I'm going to join in this time, but I love seeing what everyone else is reading. We read much of the same type of books and authors. I love Christian fiction and love the Mitford books. I am hoping to get to the Oke series later this year, the English garden series by Lori Wick and I hope to try my first Francine Rivers book this year. I am on the fence about The Thirteenth Tale, but it's still in my library list. Along with another 70 or 80 books!
Are you going to post a review or blurb of some sort when you finish a book or series? Hope you enjoy all of these, and that you read all that you set out to read! I read a lot too (70 last year) and I am always looking for good book recommendations!
Have a wonderful day!
Great list, Pride & Prejudice has been on my list forever. I miss all the Ramona books from when I was younger! Good luck with your list & happy reading! =)
This is a GREAT list!! I didn't sign up this time, because I fell so short last fall. I DO want to develop some goals, however...so I'll keep thinking about it.
I LOVED "Forever" by Karen Kingsbury. I would have some of the same titles on my list of "to reads".
Have a great day!!
:-) Susan
Great list! I really learned a lot from Bring up Boys--helps to understand the little guy in your life. I am interested to see what you think of 1776-I have thought of branching out with this one as well.
Dobson, good title. Mr. Poppers Penguins, really need to add that to our year list. You really have some good selections; some I have read, some not yet. If you get through POisonwoon Bible, PLEASE let me know. I have tried a few times and can't get make it a full quarter of the way. HELP.
Came here through Mommy To Two.
Great book list. It looks so very nice and organized.
I also loved Bring Up Boys. I will have reread that one.
I love the Love Comes Softly series. Great books! I also really enjoy Kingsbury's books.
Looks great Lauren! I, too, enjoyed Poisonwood Bible.
I can't wait to hear if you become a Mitford fan. Also, let me know what you think of 1776. It's awfully hefty, but I've been intrigued by it.
I have Bringing Up Boys but have never read it through -- just flipped through and read bits and pieces, I think. I will have to put it on my next list to discipline myself to read it. I have enjoyed some of Dobson's other books, so I have every expectation this will be great, too.
I loved the Mitford series and all of Janette Oke's books!I had read The Secret Life of Becky Miller last year and loved it -- it is not only funny, but it touched my heart. And the Mark of the Lion series is riveting.
Happy reading!
I am trying to bring more reading back into my life. I've been working on cutting out a lot of TV. I'm reading "Flee the Night" by Susan May Warren and am loving it! I plan to review it on my blog when I'm finished. Looks like you have some great choices of Christian fiction. I LOVED "Great Gatsby." It was required reading in high school.
I'm reading The Double Bind right now...I hope you like it as much as I have so far.
Happy spring and happy reading!
Great list! Bringing up Boys is a must if you have boys. I have found it the most helpful parenting book ever. I've read many on your list.... I like the look of the Poisonwood Bible... I'll have to check it out. Enjoy!!!
You've got some wonderful reads ahead: I thoroughly enjoyed 1776 and was amazed at how little I knew of our nation's beginnings. And Mitford? Absolutely wonderful. Each time I've read them. Francine Rivers' Mark of the Lion is incredible (as is everything she's written--loved "The Last Sin Eater"), and nothing touches Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice as my hands down favorite novel of all time.
Enjoy!
You are amazing me with how fast you read books. I used to read through a book pretty quickly, but not anymore. I am still on my first book--Poisonwood Bible--which I am reading because of you! I really like it. Oh--and a car? You crack me up!
I haven't read any Jan Karon either - LOL! The Mark of the Lion series is one I have read many times over!
