Run!
We've been moving at a fast pace around here! Blogging has taken a back seat, but I do want to take the time to document some of the things that have been going on.

My Favorite Boy participated in the track club at his school this year in preparation for the Music City Marathon. On the last day of track, he won the trophy for most miles earned in first grade. He was very excited about this!

A few days later, he participated in the Music City Kids' Marathon. Before the night of the race, the kids must run 25 miles. They run the final mile at the race. My Favorite Boy had run his miles, but two days before the race, he got sick. He had a fever and felt very badly. Thankfully, he improved enough by Friday to be able to run (although he had to take coughing breaks).

This is the second year he has participated, and he had a great time. Grammy and Papa were here as well, so that made the event even more special.

Before the race, the first grade group from his school huddled up to encourage each other.

And they're off!

When my Favorite Boy crossed the finish line, Jeff Fisher, the head coach of the Titans, was there to give everyone a high five. For my football-loving son, that was one of the highlights! He was also happy with his new medal.

This is just one of the many activities that have been keeping us busy. I'll be back with more soon!

An In-Home Celebration!

Last fall, I applied to be a member of the Mickey Moms Panel. I was rejected (but so were approximately 19,984 other people, so I didn't feel too badly). Because I applied for the panel, I am now a member of the Mickey Moms Club. As part of this club, I recently had the opportunity to host a Disney In-Home Celebration. Disney sent some fabulous supplies and games, and I invited many of my friends and their children to attend. It was so much fun!

Those of you who have visited my blog for a while have seen my many posts about our trips, so you know how much I enjoy visiting Disney World. Some of you have expressed an interest to me about planning trips of your own, so I thought I would let you know that Disney is now offering their Free Dining special for parts of August and all of September. This is a fabulous deal (and the free character meals are a dream come true for kids and their parents' budgets), so if you are considering a magical vacation, be sure to check it out. If you haven't read about our Disney experiences, you can click the Disney link the the Categories section of my sidebar. I think you will be able to tell that my family enjoys the Magic!

I'll Enjoy It While It Lasts
My Best Girl is a HUGE mommy's girl. If she could, she would stay with me all the time (and by that I mean every single second, twenty-four hours a day). Whenever I leave her for any reason, it usually involves many hugs, kisses, explanations, assurances, and sometimes tears.

On the other hand, my Favorite Boy has never been very affectionate, even as a baby. And, when given the choice, he usually prefers hanging out with his daddy. That's truly fine with me because I am thankful that he adores his dad and has such a great role model.

Today, however, my Favorite Boy is sick. When he is sick, he is all mine. When he is sick, he will crawl up into my lap, snuggle with me on the couch, and let me hold him for hours. When he is sick, only Mom will do. I am sorry he is sick, and I hope he is well very soon; but today, I plan to enjoy having my Favorite Boy all to myself and taking advantage of his willingness to snuggle. It is a rare treat that I plan to savor!

Still Here
Well, sometimes blogging takes a back seat to living! We have had a lot going on in the last few weeks, and it looks like it will be this way until the end of school. Yesterday, I attended my Best Girl's spring program. The program was entitled "The Lord God Made It All." She wasn't really excited about performing for a large audience, but she enjoyed it. Of course, I thought it was adorable! I'll be back soon with more of what's been going on around here!

Never a Dull Moment
My Best Girl and I pulled into our subdivision about 12:30 yesterday afternoon. After a busy morning, I was looking forward to a little quiet time during her nap. As we pulled into the garage, she started crying, "I have a bead stuck in my nose!"

Oh, yes. She had pushed a large plastic bead into her nose (from the jewelry making kit left by the Easter bunny). It was so far into her nose that I couldn't even see it. After several minutes of her trying to blow it out and a great deal of crying and screaming (her, not me), I called the doctor's office. They told us to come in immediately. Dreadfully, I headed for the door. I didn't know exactly what they would have to do, but I knew it would not be pleasant for any of us.

Thankfully, as we were walking to the car, my Best Girl was able to blow the bead out. I let the doctor's office know the problem was solved, and I got my Best Girl settled down and into her bed for nap time. When I asked her what she had learned, she shared her new found wisdom: Never stick anything in your nose except boogers.

I am sure you could think of many words to describe the role of a mother, but boring is certainly not one of them!

We're Back!
We returned from Grammy and Papa's house on Friday. The trip was great, and the kids really enjoyed the fun activities and the attention from their grandparents. Our first big adventure while in Ohio was the Air Force Museum. We barely made it through the doors before the kids started hitting Grammy up for money. They just had to drop coins in the spinning funnel thing (I am sure there is a more technical name), and Grammy was happy to comply.

The kids really enjoyed walking through the exhibits featuring planes from the early years of flight to the present. The museum was huge! Of course, their favorite planes were the ones they could walk through or pretend to fly.

Here is my Best Girl standing inside a plane. I don't remember what kind of plane it was, but both kids were very excited about the bombs.

They were also thrilled to sit in an F4 and an F22.

My favorite part of the museum was the Presidential hangar (thanks for mentioning this, Susan!). They had the planes of all the presidents from FDR to Kennedy. It was neat to see the transformation from the early planes to the newer ones. Kennedy's version looks similar to the current models on the outside. Since Kennedy's plane is 40 years old, however, I can only imagine how amazing the interiors of the more recent versions of Air Force One must be!

Here are pictures of FDR's wheelchair elevator and President Kennedy's plane.

Our trip to the Air Force Museum was a fun way to start the week. Stay tuned for more from our Spring Break!

Spring Break
The kids and I drove from middle Tennessee to Dayton, Ohio yesterday. It was a six hour drive, and about every thirty seconds, my Best Girl said, "How many more minutes?" Other than that, the trip went very smoothly, and we are happy to be at Grammy and Papa's house. We have several things planned for the week, including the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, the Air Force Museum, lunch with Papa at his office, and possibly bowling. I am also hoping to sneak in a little shopping.

I'll be back soon!

An Early Egg Hunt
My Best Girl's school had an Easter egg hunt yesterday. It was so fun! I was worried that it would be ruined by rain, but the rain (and tornado warnings) held off until later in the afternoon. My Best Girl had a wonderful time, and I loved the bunny ears and cute baskets made by her teacher. My Best Girl couldn't keep her ears on straight, but that made it even cuter.

My Best Girl has been obsessed with flowers this spring, so I loved that she took the time to pick a few (weeds) during the hunt. I received several dandelions and some small purple flowers.

After hunting eggs, the kids played an egg and spoon game. My Best Girl took this very seriously; she worked so hard to keep her egg on that spoon! She was very proud when she made it back to the start without dropping it.

As you can see, Thursday was a fun day at preschool. After today, my Favorite Boy will be finished as well, and we will start spring break. Hooray!

Read Together

I am joining Jennifer's Read Together Challenge during the month of April. I am excited to participate because I often let reading with my Favorite Boy slide. He is such an avid reader that I don't worry whether he is spending enough time with books. I do, however, enjoy the time spent sharing a story with him, and I want to be sure we take the time to do that.

The timing for this challenge is great because we start spring break next week. The kids and I are going to my parents house, so I will have more time than usual to spend reading with my kids. During this challenge, I hope to read two, possibly three books together: Mr. Popper's Penguins (I've been wanting to read this one for a while), Babe: The Gallant Pig, and Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle.

I am not setting any specific goals for my Best Girl; I read aloud to her daily. I am hoping, however, that she will join us for these books. I haven't started reading chapter books with her, and I think she will enjoy these stories as much as her brother will.

If you are interested in joining this challenge, be sure to visit Snapshot!
