Reese's Two Week Well Baby Check Up

Today Reese had her two week check up with the Pediatrician. We actually got all 4 of us out of the house on time (okay, one minute late)! We dropped Wyatt off with my mom so that we could have a peaceful trip...and it really is surprising how relaxing the Pediatrician's office is when you don't have to keep up with a 16 month old and a rolly chair.

Unfortunately the Pediatrician was running about 45 minutes late. He later apologized and only said that if he could have changed his whole morning he would have. Anyway, Reese hasn't gotten any taller, she's still 20 inches. Her head still hasn't gotten any bigger, it's 13 and 3/4 inches. But she did put on some weight! On Thursday before she was released she was 7 pounds, 6.5 ounces. On Friday at the Pediatrician she was down an ounce to 7 pounds, 5.5 ounces. Today she was 7 pounds, 12 ounces! Not only did she gain weight like a champ, she gained her birth weight back plus 2 ounces! We were thrilled! We were both worried about her weight gain because she's not a hefty eater. She's a bit of a grazer, eating every 1 or 2 hours during the day and only 3 times between 10pm and 8am and she only eats for 10 to 15 minutes at a time. We were totally relieved when we found out how much weight she'd gained.

Along with the weight gain she's doing well overall! Our doctor had to pull up her discharge papers, he didn't know about her hospitalization because the NICU has it's own doctors. He told us that if he'd just examined her and not read her discharge papers he wouldn't have known that there was anything wrong with her at birth, but he was glad she was doing well. That was so great to hear!

Her 2 month appointment and Wyatt's 18 month appointment fall within two weeks of each other, so we scheduled them back to back for November...the day after the election. That should be fun! But the doctor said that he was game so Brian and I will take our chances!

Well Child

Today was Wyatt's well child check up. As usual, Brian and I were constantly stopping him from playing with the Doctor's rolly chair. They've recently become computer savvy and keep all records online, along with computers in the exam rooms. So, we were battling keeping him away from the mouse and keyboard as well. Fun stuff.

Today Wyatt had his blood pressure checked for the very first time, which he was captivated by. His blood pressure was 101/76....but they didn't really give any indications of what it should be, so I don't know how that is.

Wyatt's Stats
Weight - 27.8 pounds - 83rd percentile.
Height - 32.5 inches, 77th percentile
Head - 19.25 cm, 86th percentile

The doctor originally told us that his height is in the 82nd percentile, but the nurse wrote down 77th. Either way we're extremely pleased that he's bouncing up from the 40's! I actually told Brian the other day that I've noticed that he seems to getting taller now. And I figured that the fact that he needs to wear toddler hats meant he has a big head!

The Doctor also looked at the bump on his foot and said it's looking wart-like so we need to start treating as such. Fun. Wyatt's saying far more words than they expected him to be saying as well, and his motor skills are up there as well, which is great to hear! He has to go back at 18 months, and the Doctor said that if I'm up for bringing both of them in at the same time for their check ups that he's game too, so it looks like we'll be coordinating those together. Fortunately, Brian comes to all the Baby check ups too, so I always have help.

He also checked the on call schedule and told me who will be in the hospital while we're there. He's not on call on the 25th, but he'll be there on the 27th so we'll see him then. Meanwhile, I'm going to wake Wyatt up from a very late nap and take him over my parents so that I can go get my final pregnancy massage!

Eventful Monday

Yesterday Wyatt and I kept Brian running all over town on his day off. I called the pediatrician first thing in the morning and left a message about a suspicious white bump that Wyatt has had on his foot for about two months now. At first I didn't think much of it, but once it prompted him to walk on his tip toes I decided to call. The only time they could fit us in was 11:15, which was a problem. Brian kept urging me to take the appointment (my fault, I'd told him I didn't think they had too many available slots with school getting ready to start), but I knew it was a bad time. The folks at the waterpark had emailed me a few weeks ago offering to throw a surprise baby shower for Brian (and me) yesterday at 11:30. I didn't want to spoil the surprise and Brian was getting pretty insistent that I take the appointment, so I took it and then called to push the shower back an hour.

The white bump turned out to be a minor infection (something's probably in there), so they opened it and took a sample and said we need to soak it a few times a day for about 20 minutes. Hopefully it will take care of itself, but his Well Baby check up is in a few weeks so they can follow up then.

I snuck a call to Dave as we were leaving the appointment and he called Brian with a made up story about the Fire Marshall being at the park and Brian needing to get up there. Wyatt and I had to tag along since we were with him. Brian wasn't thrilled to have to go up, but he was pleasantly surprised when we got there! The food was yummy and we got a lot of great stuff! We can't thank everyone enough :)!

We all then squeezed in an afternoon nap before we headed out for a few errands. Toys R' Us to buy Wyatt a T-Ball set, the Vet to pick up Noelle's medicine and Target to get "stuff." For some reason I always leave Target with more than I intended to buy! Anyway, at least taking Brian with me every once in awhile reinforces where the money goes!

Today I went to work and Wyatt stayed with my Mom. I guess he didn't take much of a nap today because he passed out on the way home. When we got in I figured he could take a little nap on the dog bed downstairs and wake up on his own for dinner. Not so much. He woke up crying and cried until I changed him into his jammies and turned on the Smashing Pumpkins! And he's out for the night. I guess it's just a question of when he'll wake up in the morning!
Here's Wyatt passed out on the dog bed!

1 Year Well Baby Check Up

Today Wyatt had his well baby check up. We really like our Pediatrician Practice, Pediatrics at the Beach , and we especially like his Doctor. My sister has gone to the same practice for the last 13 years, and I've had to take her to a few appointments, so I knew they were good when we picked them. Even though the practice is fairly large, Wyatt has seen Dr. Jones for all his well baby check ups since he was in the hospital. And it's really easy to get him in for appointments if he's feeling under the weather since there are so many Doctors.

Anyway, Wyatt was immediately entertained when we walked into the exam room by the doctor's rolly chair. We literally had to continually distract him until the doctor came in.

Wyatt's Stats
25.3 pounds (80th percentile)
and 29.5 inches long (45th percentile)
I'm not worried about the height because he continually grows, so there's no reason to stress out about it now.

The downside of today's appointment was the shots. Three shots and a toe prick to test to make sure he's getting the right nutrition, which he is. Wyatt did not enjoy the shots at all. Let's just say that I couldn't even watch because he was screaming so loud, but that's the good thing about Daddy. He can stand and watch Wyatt take the shots so I don't have to.

Wyatt also got his haircut for the second time today. I didn't take any pictures, especially since a hair cut at Great Clips will never ever live up to his first hair cut at the Barber Shop at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World. It's kind of short, so we're going to postpone his one year pictures until next week so it can grow out a bit.

Since I didn't take pictures today, here are some of Wyatt's first haircut at Disney World.

The pre-cut shot
Excited to get his haircut?
Trying to figure out what is going on!
Getting his ears. They even say "First Haircut on the back! (And of course we got "Wyatt" ears too, so if anyone has ideas about what to do with 2 sets of Mickey Ears, let me know!)
With Mommy in front of the barbershop. He was so exhausted he passed out as soon as we put him in the stroller and he slept through Chip & Dale!
